It was a moment in time…watching Carla Rinaldi receive the 2015 Lego Prize for her years of work in the Reggio Emilia schools.
Both gracious and humble, Carla accepted this award on behalf of those across the globe that have supported the work of Loris Malaguzzi and Reggio Emilia schools. Carla reiterated her belief that every child is capable and competent and she reminded us to, “Listen to the child, listen to the teacher and listen to the parent”.
My travels were timely, as my next stop was Stockholm. I had the good fortune to meet with Harold Gothson at the Reggio Emilia Institute in Stockholm.
Harold’s, historical perspective was grounded in the work they have been doing with Reggio Emilia, Italy since the early 70’s. I was reminded of the cultural implications that are integral to school communities. Many of the schools in Sweden have been Reggio inspired and foster the fundamental principles of the Reggio approach cultivating capable competent thinkers.
