Something from Nothing
(Excerpt from Art Workshop - Essay by Betsy McKenna)
"I have come to appreciate the importance of repurposing materials even more. Especially from a creative process and environmental sustainability point of view.
As educator in the classroom and parent in the home, I have observed a heightened level of interest, enthusiasm and overall creative expression when children could access and create with found and natural materials that supported their ideas.
Children’s ideas:
Cotton for my wizard beard
Tomato sauce cans and a ping pong ball for my ball toss
Cardboard box and rubber bands for my guitar
Water bottle and glitter for a hanging mobile
As the children put ideas into action, it was fascinating to watch how they worked to solve their problems.”
