Simple Complexities

Northampton, MA was the first stop on my late autumn road trip through New England. The Campus School and Fort Hill at Smith College were my destinations.

At the Campus School, I came upon a group of students who were playing field hockey in a green space across the street. Fresh air and joyful exercise took precedence over sharpening skills to gain the competitive edge. Inside, the lobby was a warm and welcoming space – no need for pretention. Children’s artwork filled the walls. Books for all ages weighted down the shelves. There were titles written by the visionary leaders past and present. The school was deeply rooted in a child-centered mission.
